ANOTHER piece of history was added to Gembrook last month with the official unveiling of a number of sculptures.
Camaraderie, designed by Mount Burnett-based artist Viktor Kalinowski, was unveiled by Cardinia Shire mayor Graeme Moore on the corner of Main Street and Gembrook Road. Cr Moore thought the artwork was a fantastic addition to Gembrook and stood for great things.
“Camaraderie is about people gathering together in friendship and trust – a true reflection of the Gembrook community,” he said.
“Residents attended community sessions to speak about living in Gembrook, and it became clear that this township was built as a result of the strength of its community members and they would also create its future. This is what inspired the artist to create Camaraderie.”
These sculptures were the latest addition to a growing art collection in the Cardinia Shire and represented individuals standing strongly together to form a community.
This community-involved project involved an extensive look into the history of Gembrook, and Mr Kalinowski said he chose granite to represent Gembrook’s history of working on the land, durability and natural beauty.
The artwork, one of four public art projects throughout the Cardinia Shire, is funded by council through the capital works program.
