THE FIGHT to save the Olinda Pool is not over.
More than 30 people attended a community workshop last week to discuss what the next plan of attack was.
Organised by Narelle Everard and Janine McClelland, the workshop aimed at answering questions in relation to the pool in terms of value to the community, what would make it better and what can be done to get it re-opened.
“The atmosphere was very positive, very harmonious and we were encouraged by the energy,” Ms Everard said.
“There were a lot of really good thoughts, ideas and suggestions. We agreed to look at all of the answers and identify the ones we felt strongest about.”
The group found that the pool wasn’t only a place to cool down on hot days, but a meeting place and community hub that kids could meet and hang out at.
They also found that it was suitable for young and old, and a valuable resource for the CFA.
When asked what would make the pool better, the group decided that the introduction of solar heating, opening on total fire ban days and adding barbecue areas were all great ideas.
The next meeting will be held at 8pm on Tuesday 22 July at the meeting room at the rear of the Olinda CFA (to be confirmed).
At this meeting, there will be a progress report from each action group and the next phase of the campaign will be decided.
The Yarra Ranges Council is yet to make a decision on the future of the pool.
