Choir sings out

YARRA Ranges Children’s Choir is looking for new members.
President of the choir Gail Smith said the group has vacancies in training and concert choir for primary school aged children. “We invite you to attend a complementary rehearsal and see Yarra Ranges Children’s Choir for yourself,” she said.
Ms Smith said all children who love to sing are welcome. “There are no auditions and no previous experience is necessary,” she said.
Ms Smith said the schedule is not too demanding and songs are chosen to best suit children’s voices.
“Children are placed in groups according to their ability and age and progress through the levels at their own pace,” she said.
Ms Smith said children can develop their vocal ability and musicianship through a combination of singing, games and activities.
The choir is regularly invited to perform at events such as Eltham’s Choral@Montsalvat and the biennial Kodaly Festivals.
Last year the group sang at the Melbourne International Arts Festival.
The group welcomes new music staff Katie Wardrobe and Rebecca Muratore for 2008.
Ms Wardrobe is the new musical director and Upwey local Ms Muratore will take on the role of assistant musical director.
The choir is a not-for-profit organisation run by a combination of music staff and parent volunteers to keep fees low. Rehearsals are held at Pembroke College in Hereford Road, Mt Evelyn, on Tuesday afternoons during school terms.
