Kicking off a savings journey

By ANEEKA SIMONIS

EDUCATION paid off for two Selby Primary School students who won a savings competition through Bendigo Bank Belgrave earlier this month.
Presented by branch manager Charmaine Jeffery at a school assembly on Friday 8 August, students Ashlyn and Krystal were given a Bendigo Bank account with $25 to start them on their savings journey.
As part of their economics unit, the primary school students learnt about saving, interest rates and how to run a business by managing their own market stalls at the school.
The savings competition required students to draw and write about something they would like to save for. Most students showed interest in purchasing electronic equipment such as an iPad.
The Belgrave bank also donated an estimated $3000 under its sport grant, which provided the school with new uniforms and sporting equipment.
“Our kids love the uniforms as well as the balls and equipment with our own logo on them,” Selby Primary School’s principal Justin Butler said.
The school also received a $160 surge through the bank’s Club Rewards program which will go toward a new outdoor performance stage.
Mr Butler said the donation provided the remaining funds needed to build the stage which will be finished during the next school term.
“The kids love to sing, dance and act. It’s great that we can now provide something for the kids that they couldn’t otherwise have,” he said.
