Spirit of the land on stage

Monbulk Primary School Grade Six Monbulk Primary School Grade Six

MONBULK Primary School is proud to present its forthcoming production of Our Land Our Home.
Based on an original script by Esther Priestley and produced and directed by Esther Priestley and staff at Monbulk Primary School, Our Land Our Home is the story of our land, its many moods and faces and how it changes with time.
“In it you will meet Motherland,” said Esther Priestley. “She is old and wise beyond time and supports all that happens around her with the help of the Mimi Spirits who are often seen doing her bidding.
“Motherland is frequently seen wandering around keeping an eye on things and is in charge of two other characters, Spirit and Future, who need to be kept in check constantly and are a little like her children.
“Spirit represents the will of nature and of Australia’s people to survive and battle through the many hardships that our environment can bring.
“Spirit is proud and a little bit vain, and believes that he is responsible for everything that exists, that is, until Motherland puts him in his place!
“Future is a bright and energetic creature who is always optimistic and believes that everything is possible.
“She supports Spirit with enthusiasm during his endeavours and, if we are honest, probably is the drive for making most things happen.”
The children at Monbulk Primary School have been working on this production since last term and have been involved with all aspects of the show including choreography, script writing and props. The production involves every student in the school and features the revival of the school song written by retired Monbulk primary teacher Elizabeth Eagles.
This exciting event is being staged on Thursday, 20 October at the Careforce Church in Mt Evelyn. Tickets are available from the school office on 9756 6481.
