SCOTT McKenzie was the talk of the town after the completion of round three of the Reeves Shield.
The tall opening bowler and skipper of the Knoxfield Knights tore through the Ferntree Gully batting line-up dismissing the Blues for just 119.
McKenzie finished with the impressive figures of 7/47 from 23 overs, which included 11 maidens and the first six wickets to fall.
Chasing 244 at the Wally Tew Oval, Ferntree Gully was unable to muster a partnership and was dismissed after 45 overs, with opener Josh Henry the only contribution with 67.
At Eildon Park, the home team was defending 231 and had to hold off a gallant Knox Gardens who got within four runs in the closest contest of the round.
Gregory was the best performer with the bat for the Falcons with 61 as Panthers bowlers Brown and Snyman combined well to hold off the visitors with three wickets apiece.
The Basin has won three on the trot, resuming at 0/19 in response to Monbulk’s 160.
Danny “RS” Rundle batting at first wicket down scored his first century of the season unbeaten on 102 as the Bears reached the target in the 64th over.
Talented sportsman Jake Best gave good support with 32 not out, locking out any hope of a Monbulk win.
Johnson Park (167) didn’t have enough runs on the board in its clash with Belgrave at Fair Park Reserve.
Belgrave was well on top early before Feaver Medallist Ben Stallworthy grabbed three quick wickets prior to the tea break as the Magpies slumped to 5/126 with opener Johnathon Levell still at the crease.
After the break, Levell was joined by dashing hitter Aaron Daniel (43) as the pair added 58 for the fifth wicket.
Levell batted for 72 patient overs giving his team a win by four wickets.
At stumps, a modest Levell played down his role.
“That was an ugly innings but I’m just rapt that we got the win.”
In the final game, Upper Gully successfully chased Upwey Tecoma’s 134 for the loss of five wickets.
Former Camberwell Magpies batsman Patrick McKenna (39) and Tom Roleff (38) saw the Kings safely home.
Three players from the FTGDCA will trial next Sunday for the Victorian Country XI in a match at Seymour in central Victoria.
Ben Stallworthy 28 (Johnson Park), Trent Atkinson 22 (South Belgrave) and Cameron Wheeler 19 (Mountain Gate) are hoping to make the state squad for the Australian Country Championships held in Bendigo (Jan 4-13).
