PROTECTIVE Services will be patrolling Tecoma station from Tuesday 21 October as part of the State Government’s plan for officers at every metropolitan station.
The PSOs will be present at the station from 6pm-2am daily and will maintain a presence on the platforms and around the carparks. There will always be at least two officers on duty.
Sergeant Mick Hall of Belgrave police station said that the roll-out would improve public safety at the station.
“Although Tecoma’s not the busiest station, it will make a huge difference for passengers getting on and off the train especially late at night.
“They will be there to make sure everyone’s doing the right thing and that nobody is in danger.”
PSOs patrolling Tecoma will start their shift at Boronia police station where they will receive a briefing from their supervising Sergeant outlining any notable safety concerns or events in the area.
During their shift, PSOs maintain a visible presence during peak hour train services and engage with the community.
They proactively patrol the train platform, car parks and surrounds to counter anti-social behaviour, property damage, alcohol and other transport-related offences as they arise.
“Even at a quiet station, it will be really beneficial to have them patrolling,” Sergeant Hall said.
