Sleek and slick

By Casey Neill
THE car of the year 2020 will have a sleek, flowing shape.
That’s according to former Knox School student Nader Salameh who was selected as a finalist in the VACC Target 2020 Future Car competition.
“I’m ecstatic, I’m so happy,” he said.
The 18-year-old competed against high school and tertiary students to have a panel of industry experts select his concept design of the car of 2020 as a finalist.
The Monash University business student loves to draw, particularly cars.
“I’ve been drawing ever since I can remember,” he said.
“It’s really fun and a great way to relax,” he said.
Nader entered the competition in 2006 but was unsuccessful.
He honed his skills in graphics in year 12 and gave it another shot.
“I thought ‘what’s the worst thing that can happen?” he said.
Nader spent weeks working on the design, filling eight A3 size pages with small designs on the quest to find the perfect one.
Just 17 years old at the time, he narrowed it down to two designs before selecting his shortlisted design for its ‘flowing shape’.
“It really works well,” he said.
He drew the final design to a brief he formulated for imaginary company Xenon.
He said the design was not bound by money constraints or conventions and was ‘super futuristic’ and ‘highly modern’.
The shortlisted designs will be on display until 10 March at the VACC Target 2020 stand at the Melbourne International Motor Show at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre.
