Club’s tanks for water saving

MONBULK Bowling Club hopes to save more than 500,000 litres of water a year with the installation of a new water tank and reticulation system.
The club last week unveiled its new water tank which was recently installed with the help of a Federal Government grant.
Casey Liberal MP Tony Smith was last week invited to turn over the first sod on phase two of the project for the installation of a new reticulation system.
Mr Smith said the project had been made possible by a $47,000 grant from the former Liberal Government’s community water grants program.
The cash for the project was announced last October but it was only recently that the money came through.
Bowling club president David Moore said the funding had been a fantastic boost for not only the club but the local community.
He said water saved by the new water tank would be use on the bowling greens and any left over would be made available to help local drought ridden farmers.
“This is an excellent example of a local community group taking the initiative to save precious water and help conserve the environment,” Mr Smith said.
Mr Smith said the project was a fantastic community project that was expected to save a minimum of 500,000 litres of water a year, which is equivalent to a quarter of an Olympic size swimming pool.
“It will also mean that the club can sustainably continue to provide for its members and players,” he said.
The project has involved the installation of a 90,000 litre tank to harvest rainwater which will be used to water the club’s greens and gardens and will also be used to flush indoor toilets.
