ARMED with a true-blue Aussie garden design, Fleming’s Nurseries is gunning for its third gold medal at the 2008 Chelsea Flower Show next month.
The Monbulk-based nursery is now putting the finishing touches on its design as it gets ready to take the horticulture world by storm.
Celebrity gardener Jamie Durie has joined the team this year as they get ready to showcase the best of Australian horticulture.
The Chelsea team recently gathered to unveil their striking orange uniforms, and a golden shovel, which will help them bring home the ultimate prize – a gold medal.
Fleming’s director Wes Fleming said the uniforms had become a major talking point in the UK over the past four years.
“Last year it was hot pink and in 2006 bright yellow, now we are a striking orange… they can’t miss us on the work site.”
Fleming’s will present its fifth consecutive entry to the world renowned show with a design that has been prepared to represent a truly Aussie garden.
It will feature a wetland, a large rolling decking areas with seating that represents Australia’s vast beaches and a 20-metre rammed earth wall which has been hand painted by aboriginal artist, Gabriella Possum Nungurrayi. Four shipping containers have already left Australian shores en route to the UK where, Fleming’s garden masterpiece will take centre stage. Mr Fleming said he was confident that this year the garden will be a winner.
“Mark Browning brought home a prestigious Silver Gilt award last year and this year we are aiming for gold,” he said.
As the countdown for the show draws near, the team will leave Australian shores on Thursday 1 May.
Once in the UK the team will spend the next few weeks building the garden ready for the opening of the renowned show on 20 May.
