YARRA Ranges’ new Lyster Ward councillor was sworn in at a special council meeting last week, surrounded by friends, well-wishers and new colleagues.
Cr Mike Clarke was officially sworn in as a Yarra Ranges councillor on 7 April by council CEO Glenn Patterson, with many other councillors present to witness the ceremony.
After reading an affirmation of office, Cr Clarke shook hands with O’Shannassy councillor Jim Child and received applause from audience members, before making a speech to his fellow councillors.
He outlined his history in science and engineering, including being part of a team at Telstra that rolled out the first ADSL connections in 1999, and thanked the council for his introduction.
“Glen Patterson has been most welcoming and supportive, and so has the mayor Maria (McCarthy),” he said.
“Thank you very much indeed for your help in getting settled in.
“I really look forward to a future of us all working very effectively.”
The councillors then passed a review to the council’s appointments to external bodies, replacing former-councillor Samantha Dunn with Cr Clarke on bodies as the council’s representative.
The council’s next ordinary meeting will be held tonight Tuesday 14 April, at 7pm at the Yarra Ranges Council Chambers, 15 Anderson Street, Lilydale.
