MONBULK’S horticulture guru Wes Fleming has won gold at the Chelsea Flower Show.
The Fleming’s Nurseries director said the win highlighted that Australian horticulture could match it with some of the best on an international stage.
Teaming up with celebrity gardener Jamie Durie, the team from Fleming’s took out their third gold medal.
It was a true blue Aussie garden that brought home the gold this year.
The garden includes a wetland and large rolling decking areas with seating that represents Australia’s vast beaches.
A 20-metre rammed earth wall painted by aboriginal artist Gabriella Possum Nungurrayi was the centrepiece.
Mr Fleming said Durie’s design and use of 100 per cent Australian indigenous plants made the garden an outstanding success.
“We are exceptionally proud of everyone who has contributed to this garden and the many hundreds of hours that go into making this project an international success,” he said.
Fleming’s team met with the Queen to discuss their garden design.
Mr Fleming said he was already planning for next year’s show.
