Brookers bite Dogs hard

By Geoff Shipp
IN WHAT was a must win for both clubs, all was set for an entertaining game of football at Wandin on Saturday. The Brookers put the bite on the dogs at the kennel.
Gembrook- Cockatoo were ready to take on their more fancied opponents in what was again, perfect conditions for football. There were no beg your pardons right from the first bounce to the final siren.
Both teams moved the ball up and down the small Wandin ground with quick play and precision. The Brookers’ accuracy in front of goal deciding the final outcome.
The Brookers held a 22-point break at half time and should have been further ahead. The Bulldogs pounced in the third quarter kicking 8.6 to 4.1 and took the lead.
The Bulldogs went further ahead with the first goal of the last quarter to a 13-point lead. Then the Brookers dug deep and responded and kicked 4.2 to Wandins 1.4 to eventually win by nine points. In what was a very even team performance with great contributions of both the experienced and young brigade the Brookers deserved their victory.
Consistency is now the key ingredient for the remainder of the season. The improvement of all the players to preparation is a credit to the playing group and there is lots of football still to come.
