FOOTHILLS-based group Girls Together is running a series of workshops in July promoting positive body image.
The group, which is comprised of eight girls aged 12-16, aims to teach young women healthy attitudes towards nutrition, fitness and fashion.
Among the activities on offer is a first aid course, a cooking day and a pampering session with the Body Shop. All lessons include a healthy lunch.
The workshops will be run using part of a $4500 Brumby Government Positive Body Image grant recently awarded to the girls.
Girls Together began in September 2007 as a response to what the group says is a ‘one size fits all’ approach to physical perfection.
“It’s all about getting people to realise that everybody is different,” said group member Jess Hardy.
Girls Together invites 11-16-year-old girls to attend free activities at Coonara Community House, 22 Willow Road, Upper Ferntree Gully.
