THE Mount Evelyn Scout Group has outdone all other Victorian groups to raise money for the 2008 Scout raffle.
The group raised $17,240 by selling raffle tickets for a Mercedes Benz.
The overall funds the branch raised this year totalled $413,000, making it the most successful fundraising year so far.
The funds will help pay for repairs to the hall, activities such as camping and hiking, students’ fees, and insurance.
“Through efforts like the Monster Raffle and local sausage sizzles, Scouts learn how to set goals and achieve them,” Victorian Scout Chief Commissioner Alston Park said.
The fundraising supports the ‘learning for life’ philosophy of the Scout program, which encourages young people to be independent.
“The most important thing is that the kids get in to the community so they can be seen and have fun,” Mt Evelyn Scout Group leader Gary Park said.
