EMERGING local artists Amanda Lacy and Rosie Nash will enjoy the chance to exhibit their work at the upcoming VCE Creative Showcase.
Now in its ninth year, the initiative includes work from Yarra Ranges secondary schools and will culminate with exhibitions at the Burrinja Cultural Centre, the Studio Gallery in Warburton and the Red Earth Gallery in Mooroolbark.
The collection features works from the 2015 graduates of art and studio art.
Development officer Amy Middleton is curating the exhibition after numerous visits to art classes at schools in the region.
After meeting with the students and teachers, she observes the students’ portfolios as they develop.
The result is an opening night in which the public, along with friends and families of the artists, can attend and celebrate.
Monbulk College VCE student Amanda Lacy said she was excited to receive recognition for her hard work.
“It’s been a long process.
“It’s great to look back to see how far I’ve come since I first started,” she said.
“This is something I’ve put a lot of work into, so it’s great to be recognised.”
Amanda said she will present photograph prints, some of which have been manipulated digitally.
She said her theme focuses on the subconscious and includes topics such as insomnia and nightmares.
“This is a great initiative and I can’t wait for people to see my work,” she said.
Opening nights for the exhibition are Red Earth Gallery on Thursday 4 February at 6pm, Burrinja Gallery on Friday 5 February at 7pm, and The Studio Gallery in Warburton on Saturday 6 February at 2pm.
