KNOX City Council will assess the cost of managing its fleet of vehicles as a result of increased petrol prices.
Council’s director of engineering and infrastructure, Ian Bell, said council had always been mindful of the cost and energyefficiency of its transport, but would nevertheless need to assess the impact of escalating fuel prices as part of its midyear budget review.
“Council has always pursued fuel effective vehicles to achieve both environmental and cost benefits,” he said.
“Over the last four years, council has purchased dual fuel (petrol and LPG) vehicles, dedicated LPG vehicles and fourcylinder vehicles.”
The council’s fuel budget for 2005/06 is $410,000, up $10,000 from the previous year.
Mr Bell said the budget went towards the running of several fuelpowered items, ranging from lawn mowers, utilities, tractors and buses.
The council currently has 21 LPG vehicles and 21 dual fuel vehicles.
