STUDENTS from five local primary schools recently competed in the Rotary Club of Monbulk and District’s inaugural public speaking contest.
Monbulk Primary School hosted the event on Wednesday, 17 August.
The Grade 5 and 6 students spoke on topics ranging from ‘My favourite pet’ to ‘If I could change the world’.
The standard of the speeches was high, so the judges from Toastmasters had great difficulty in separating the candidates.
The eventual winner was Felix Gladkoff of Ferny Creek Primary School, with Harry from Monbulk Primary School in second place and Alyssa from Mountain District Christian School in third place.
The speeches were warmly received by an appreciative audience who voted the evening a great success.
The local schools were enthusiastic about the concept and it is planned the contest will become an annual event.
