THREE hills schools have shared in a cash boost to help highlight crime prevention.
Emerald Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) in association with the town’s police announced the cash rewards last week.
Macclesfield, Menzies Creek and Emerald primary schools will each receive $500 as recognition of their aims to reducing crime in the hills.
Menzies Creek was last week the first of the schools to receive the cash.
Lisa Roberts of Emerald NHW said it was great to see the students learning how to show respect for others and their property.
Ms Roberts said these hills schools where teaching the children the importance of respect and how vandalism and graffiti can be destructive for a community.
She said the children were also doing a great job looking out for people breaking the law.
Ms Roberts said NHW was proud to help out hills schools to spread the message of crime prevention.
Emerald police officer Senior Constable Jim Wilson said it was fantastic to see the students doing such a great job to keep their school safe.
Snr Const Wilson told the students it was vitally important for the children to continue to watch out for vandals and report them to police.
“What you are doing here is very important to make sure these things (graffiti) don’t happen,” he said.
