HILLS people will be knee deep in weeds this week.
Cardinia Shire Council is hoping to get as many people as possible to put on some gardening gloves to help rid their parks and native reserves of weeds.
Ranges Ward councillor Ed Chatwin said volunteers were needed to make it a success.
“Introduced species and weeds can impact on other native flora and fauna so it is important we make a combined community effort at least once year to get rid of some of the weeds,” he said.
The yearly community event sees volunteers from all over Australia work together to participate in weeding activates.
This year’s event is held from 1-7 September and the theme is Grow Me Instead.
Weeding activities have been planned at three locations in the nearby hills townships of Emerald, Gembrook and Cockatoo on Saturday 6 September.
School students will also be busy “weedbusting.”
Community members who want to help out can attend the weedbusting sessions between 9am and 11am at Emerald Lake Park, Emerald Lake Road, Emerald, Gembrook Park, Gembrook, and Cockatoo Creek, corner Pakenham Road and McBride Street, Cockatoo.
