Revving up racing skills

FUTURE formula one drivers in the foothills put their racing skills to the test last week.
The Basin Primary School students put their newly-built billycarts through their paces in a race to rival any grand prix.
For the past six weeks a group of students have been working with retirees from the Knox Men’s Shed to handcraft their carts. The City of Knox initiative teamed up eight students from the school with retirees for the project in an attempt to bridge the generation gap.
A council spokesman said the building program was about bringing young and old together and breaking down barriers between the two age groups.
Students lined a makeshift roadway to cheer on the racers as they put their carts to the test.
The winning team also won the right to keep their billycart.
Tom, Andre and their support crew that drew a dead heat in the time trials shared this honour.
