DREAMER in the Deep is a school holiday treat for the imagination.
Half animal, half human puppet character Dreamer lives in the world of imagination.
Colourful sea creatures guide him on an ocean adventure when his bedroom becomes a yacht.
He explores the Australian coast and the depths of the ocean, where he meets an accordion-playing crab and an opera-singing shrimp.
Dreamer in the Deep features the black light puppet theatre style.
The puppeteer is made invisible, dressed in black against a black velvet backdrop.
All puppets and props are painted in fluorescent colours and specially lit. Melbourne composer John Grant worked with the show’s puppeteers to compose an original soundtrack to bring the story to life.
Melbourne-based puppet theatre company Dream Puppets produces the show.
Its productions celebrate and stimulate the imagination.
Dreamer in the Deep is on at Burrinja, 351 Glenfern Road, Upwey, on Wednesday 24 September at 11am.
Tickets are $10 each, $8 for groups of four or more and free for children under two. Bookings and more information are available by calling Burrinja on 9754 8723.
