Doctor joins a long-standing team

DR COLLIN Wong has joined the long-standing team of doctors at Emerald Medical Centre: Dr Roger Steer, Dr Ruth Johnston, Dr Nazmul Hoque, Dr Vassili Lapchine, Dr George Somers and Dr Lawrence Baria.
Dr Wong was trained in Britain and has spent the past five years working in rural Victoria.
He is an experienced and welcome addition, enabling Emerald Medical Centre to better service existing patients and accept new ones.
The centre will celebrate its 50th anniversary of service to the people of the Dandenong hills next year.
Dr Ian (Spud) Murphy started the practice in 1958/9 and worked until his death in 1981 when the present principal, Dr Somers, took over the practice.
He and practice manager Carol Johansson have since built up an extremely experienced team of doctors, nurses and other staff.
Dr Somers, an associate professor, now devotes most of his time to teaching medical students at Monash University, but continues to be available for consultation most Fridays.
Emerald Medical Centre has also signed up two extremely experienced nurses, Bronwyn and Andrea, who join Susanne.
The nurses are trained in asthma education and Quit counselling as well as the usual wide variety of nursing duties.
Susanne is an accredited nurse immuniser and Andrea is a pap smear provider, fully trained in women’s sexual health counselling.
A diabetes nurse educator and a mental health nurse are also available for bookings.
A psychologist attends the practice, which also provides a pathology collection service.
Emerald Medical Centre is at 1 Murphys Way, Emerald. Phone 5968 4622 for an appointment.
