UPWEY will now proudly fly the Australian flag in its town centre.
A flag pole was installed on the Main Street roundabout this month in time for the 90th anniversary of Remembrance Day.
A request from local scouts six months ago for a flag pole outside their scout hall initiated the $5000 project.
The CFA will use the pole to advise of extreme fire danger and fire ban days. “It’s a community flag pole,” Councillor Noel Cliff said.
The shire provided funds for the flag pole in its budget and will redirect a $2500 community reimbursement towards irrigating the Upwey Football Club playing surface.
