Driver lucky to walk away from crash

A male driver is lucky to walk away after losing control of his car and careening through a solid stone wall along Avon Road.

Emerald Police said the male driver was travelling along Avon Road at 1am on 24 October and failed to negotiate a bend just after Stillwells Deviation.

The car careened through a solid stone wall located along the driveway of a residential address and though police are still investigating they believe speed was involved.

Emerald Police described the car as having exploded upon impact and were amazed that the driver was able to walk away from the incident unharmed.

The residents of the property where the car crashed said they were only alerted to the accidenty by neighbours, but said it was only a matter of time before a crash occurred due to the amount of speeding that occurs along Avon Road.

“Honestly when I saw the car I was just concerned about what might’ve been inside it, but he was very lucky he didn’t injure himself,” said the resident.

“I can’t believe it … a couple of inches either way and he would’ve been dead.”

“A lot of people speed along this road and come roaring down the straight – I’ve lived here for 30 years, and the road has become more and more popular.”
