A RECORD number of locals have been nominated for their outstanding achievements this year.
Cardinia Shire Council has received more than 52 nominations for its annual Australia Day Awards.
Mayor Bill Pearson said the day was a great opportunity to celebrate everything that is special about our nation.
He said it would be exciting to see who wins the awards this year with so many outstanding people nominated.
A total of 19 people have been nominated for Citizen of the Year, seven for Senior Citizen of the Year and eight for Community Event of the Year.
A further 14 have been put up for Young Citizen of the Year and four people were nominated for the new category of Community Service Award. The winners will be announced at an Australia Day celebration at the Cardinia Cultural Centre in Pakenham on Monday 26 January. Celebrations will also be held across the shire including Cockatoo.
