SPRING has hit the hills big time at Emerald Golf Club, so all were in tranquil moods to test their golfing ability using just three clubs.
Graeme Bates proved to be the master at this format, playing better than with his full set. Playing off 18 he carded a great 41 stableford points to stand atop the winner’s podium.
Just to his right, with a toe touching the first place rung, was Brian McCoy again, who ignored the four strokes he lost due to recent good form to chase his 24 handicap home for 40 points.
To their left stood Leigh Morison and Peter Clowes fighting for recognition with 37 points. At their feet stood Ross Martin with his creditable 36 points.
Nearest the pins were Clowes on the fourth, Martin the seventh, Mike Litchfield the 10th and Brett Isherwood strolled away with the loot for the pro pin on the 18th.
Next week the club’s Foursomes Championship is played. In this format pairs take alternate hits.
The Pro Am on 10 December is well on the way with entries rolling in at a great rate. Malaysian Airlines and Leaf Busters have stepped forward with generous sponsorship, which is greatly appreciated by the club.
There is rumour going around the club that a shortish person, whose name starts with Ian Scott, will be featuring in the Myer window display this year. Right size for an elf anyway. The story goes that while working on the course on Friday, he was given the job of raking out and flattening the corings from each green. Having returned, satisfied that he had done well, he assured Bazz that all had been done.
So certain was he that he had not missed any, he promised to bare his backside in Myer’s window if he had. Yes he had! Two lots in fact!
