Yarra Valley Deli’s newest owners, Richard and Kelly Harrop are excited about serving up good quality local produce.By Kath Gannaway
YARRA Valley Deli is in its second incarnation, under the new ownership of Kelly and Richard Harrop.
The deli, at the gateway to the Warburton Highway tourist region, was well-known as the “other job” of actor John Wood.
While the cafe-deli enjoyed some reflected celebrity, it has found a new success as a result of the reputation it earned for its food, atmosphere and fine Yarra Valley wines.
Richard came on board at the Yarra Valley Deli when the Woods decided to sell late last year.
Kelly and Richard jumped at the chance to put their own stamp on the popular eatery by renovating and updating the cafe over the Christmas period.
It was a very natural progression for the couple who have extensive experience in the local hospitality industry.
Richard has worked as a chef for 14 years and Kelly has worked both back and front of house for 10 years.
One of the main changes has been to move to full table service.
“Full table service provides people with a casual cafe environment, but the benefits of being able to walk in, sit down and be waited on, without lining up at the counter,” Richard said.
Kelly and Richard have added to the best of the original Yarra Valley Deli – the exceptional deli range of cold meats, antipasto selection, local and imported cheeses, olives, oils, vinegars, pastas and more; the delicious cakes and tasty light meals, and have added a wide variety of more substantial meals, including pastas, salads and other tempting options.
The Yarra Valley Deli is an ideal place to stop for a coffee and cake, a light lunch, a selection from the deli for your picnic basket, or a main meal, accompanied by your choice of Yarra Valley wines.
Richard and Kelly are also happy to discuss functions and catering on and off site.
