A COCKATOO woman is lucky to be alive after she was trapped inside her upturned car in Selby last Tuesday (17 March).
Monbulk Leading Senior Constable Glen Barkway said the 49-year-old was travelling towards Melbourne on Belgrave Gembrook Road when she lost control negotiating a bend.
The woman drove between the guardrail and hit a traffic sign. The car became airborne and landed upside down on Vosges Road.
Intensive care paramedic Gary Robertson said thewoman’s car fell four metres down one embankment and landed on another.
“We found the car rocking, balancing on its roof with her trapped inside,” he said.
“The roof was squashed down to the steering wheel yet amazingly the woman escaped with only pain to her neck and back.”
A CFA crew cut the driver from the wreckage. Paramedics took her to The Alfred hospital in a stable condition.
Leading Sen Const Barkway said wet conditions and driver error were to blame for the crash.
Witnesses told police the woman was not driving too fast. No other motorists were involved and there were no passengers in the car.
