YARRA Ranges police have reported a quiet Easter on the roads, despite the region recording the second highest number of speeding and drink driving offences.
Region four had five drivers exceeding the prescribed alcohol limit, five disqualified drivers, six unlicensed and 229 speeding offences.
However, the region takes in the bordering municipalities of Yarra Ranges, Knox and Maroondah.
Yarra Ranges Traffic Management Unit Leading Senior Constable Ron Valdman said despite the high regional figures, the ranges had a comparatively good run.
He said there were just 20 collisions over the four-day weekend with no fatalities recorded and a handful of injuries.
But Leading Sen Const Valdman said speeding was again an issue on the road with one motorcyclist clocked at 235 km/h in a 100 km/h zone near Coldstream.
He said although there were no major accidents on the roads, drivers were still failing to get the message to slow down.
“It just doesn’t seem to be getting through.”
Knox Senior Sergeant John Hess said the operation had seen a reduction in Easter fatalities across the region.
“We are really happy with the combination of traffic enforcement and good road behaviour,” he said.
