A DANDENONGS CFA group is asking for community help to equip local brigades.
Dandenong Ranges fire crews need between $2000 and $3000 to buy a satellite phone for their Field Operations Vehicle (FOV).
The FOV is called to serious structure fires, chemical spills and bushfires.
It becomes the frontline control point and handles all communications.
The satellite phone is vital for communicating in areas with limited reception and when the mobile phone network becomes overloaded during major incidents.
The Dandenong Ranges Feeding Group is co-ordinating the fund-raising drive.
The group’s next target is a four wheel drive station wagon priced between $40,000 and $50,000.
