BELGRAVE’S Terrys Avenue Community Fireguard Group has thanked their local CFA crew with a sweet treat.
Caroline Fittall created a chocolate sculpture to thank Belgrave Fire Brigade members for their summertime efforts, particularly in defending Belgrave and Tecoma homes on 15 February.
The student pastry chef’s creation represents new life after the fires.
It features a tree stump, two young possums, frogs, leaves and a watchful gecko.
Brigade captain Phil Keep said it seemed a shame to eat the masterpiece.
“We weren’t sure what to do with it,” he laughed.
“It was different. It came from the heart.”
The sculpture remains in the fire station fridge while the team works out how to divide it.
“We’re grateful that people think of us,” Mr Keep said.
“We’ve had so many thankyous it starts to get embarrassing.”
The Community Fireguard is a safety program that helps residents plan for bushfires to save lives and homes.
