MUSICIANS have been given the opportunity to ‘jam’ together, with the State Government funding a Rock ‘n Roll program.
Monbulk MP James Merlino recently announced that the Dandenong Ranges Music Council would receive $2000 under the Government’s Volunteer Small Grants Program.
Mr Merlino, who played the drums as a teenager, said the DRMC would use the grant to encourage young people to take up leadership roles through designing and running workshops and music ‘jam’ sessions.
“This grants program offers organisations that are keen to attract a broader range of people the chance to make their plans a reality which leads to great results for both the organisation and the new volunteer,” Mr Merlino said.
DRMC youth music leader and musician Kieran Dennis first initiated the idea of music workshops.
The DRMC is hosting a community forum on Saturday, 6 August at 1pm at Upwey High School to determine how the grant money will be spent.
Mr Dennis said the forum was an opportunity for young volunteers and musicians to brainstorm the best way to use the money to assist young musicians.
Anyone interested in helping to get the project up and running should attend the community forum on Saturday, 6 August.
