BORONIA’S long-awaited warm water pool will cost less to build than expected.
Knox councillors last week approved the construction contract for the 15×10 metre hydrotherapy pool at Knox LeisureWorks.
The $3.4 million price tag was well below the predicted $4.1 million.
The State Government has chipped in just over $1 million and the council allocated $733,000 from its Federal Government infrastructure program grant.
The council will use cash from its major projects reserve stash to fund the remainder.
Baird Ward councillor Peter Cole praised local campaigners who worked hard to keep the pool on the agenda.
The pool will be heated to 34 degrees and feature ramp access and purpose built change rooms for the elderly and people with disabilities.
Construction will begin next month and will be completed in March 2010.
