BORONIA last weekend became home to the latest in a string of attacks on Indian students around Australia.
A 19-year-old Indian man living in Boronia pulled into the Chandler Park Reserve’s car park to make a phone call on his mobile about 9pm last Friday (12 June).
Two men approached him while he stood outside his car and demanded he hand over cash.
When the victim proved he had no money the pair punched him in the face and racially abused him.
The victim tried to get back into his car, but his attackers grabbed him from behind and punched him in the back and head.
The two men fled by foot when another car approached, leaving their victim with a blood nose, cuts and bruising.
Police described the injuries as ‘minor’.
Four Boronia Police units attended the incident.
Police urged anyone with information to contact Sergeant Hunt at Boronia Police Station on 9760 6600.
The attack follows a string of similar incidents across the country over recent months.
Federation of Indian Students of Australia said police have failed to curb the racially motivated brutality.
The violence has prompted protests and threatens to harm Australia’s lucrative higher education industry overseas.
