Speeding notice- Monbulk Police Constable Dave Creek watched out for speeding motorists during

By Tania Martin
SPEEDING motorists were put on notice last week as Monbulk Police set up a traffic blitz.
Eight drivers were intercepted speeding, between 20 and 30 kilometres above the limit.
Monbulk’s Senior Constable Dave Creek said one man was also booked for overtaking on double lines.
The man was caught attempting to overtake another vehicle on Monbulk Road, near Grants Picnic Ground in Kallista.
“It was a pretty silly and dangerous thing to do,” he said.
Police operated a number of speed cameras around the area, such as on Monbulk-Silvan Road between Monbulk and Silvan.
The operation was held last Thursday from 6am to 2pm.
Sen Const Creek said the operation had not netted the results the police had expected, but that was good news.
“It’s good to keep drivers on their toes, to let them know that they need to comply with the road rules all the time, not just when they think we are around,” Sen Const Creek said.
Police also set up a preliminary breath testing station on Monbulk Road near Silvan last Thursday, between 11.15am and 12.15pm.
Sen Const Creek said 132 drivers were tested, but none recorded positive readings.
He said the police were planning a number of similar operations over the next six months. “We’ve had a lot of accidents this year and speed is always a big contributor,” he said.
Sen Const Creek said motorists needed to drive to the condition of the road and slow down.
