SELBY Scout Group will hold a Dandenong Ranges first green event to raise cash for its jamboree and community.
The group began planning the Living it Now! Sustainable Lifestyle Festival three months ago to fundraise for its 12 young cubs.
Event spokesman Marcus Deuchar said there were few opportunities in the town for parents to raise the $1500 jamboree fee.
Mr Deuchar said the festival would showcase the Dandenongs’ culture and community and its commitment to the environment and living sustainably.
“The festival aims to empower everyday people to improve the sustainability of our homes, communities and businesses and to maintain and enhance our local natural environment,” he said.
The event will include presentations, workshops and activities on sustainability and a sustainable homes tour.
The group is now looking for volunteers to assist in planning and on the day.
“Any commitment people are willing to offer would be excellent,” Mr Deuchar said.
Volunteers can highlight their area of expertise and choose a level of involvement from providing advice to joining the event committee.
Mr Deuchar is seeking residents to open their sustainable homes for the day.
He hopes to attract more than 100 exhibitors and raise in excess of $40,000.
The group plans to hold the festival annually to benefit several community groups.
The Living it Now! Sustainable Lifestyle Festival will be held at Belgrave South Recreation Reserve on 8 November.
Anyone interested in helping out can attend information sessions at Belgrave Library at 7.30pm on Wednesday 29 July and Tuesday 4 August and register to volunteer at www.livingitnow .org.au.
