SHOPPERS will not be disappointed this month with the return of the popular Gembrook Market.
The market will have something for everyone including locally produced goods, plus a number of ethical and environmentally sensitive items.
Thousands of locals and visitors are expected to return to the market on Sunday 27 September from 9am.
The market closed in May following issues with public liability insurance.
Previously the market had been covered under Cardinia Shire’s insurance policy for section 86 committees.
However, following a review, the council was advised by its insurers that volunteer groups and organisations would no longer be adequately protected under the current policy.
This led to the market closure and residents rallied together with Gembrook MP Tammy Lobato in a bid to get it up and running again.
New market committee president Walter Berger said after looking at a number of options the group decided to become incorporated. Under this plan the council has agreed to fund the public liability insurance for the first 12 months, pay for the incorporation fee and a start-up grant of $2000.
The committee is also calling for volunteers to help organise the monthly event.
Those interested in joining should call 0437 664 121.
The market is run on the fourth Sunday of every month and is located at Puffing Billy Station, Main Street, Gembrook, from 9am to 2pm.
