Ramping up the action

THE world’s greatest skate and BMX stars will this month take the plunge at Melbourne’s Megarampage.
The sports and music event will feature the world’s largest extreme sport structure’s first visit to the southern hemisphere at Etihad Stadium on 31 October.
The MegaRamp stands at about 30 metres tall, covers 12 acres and will take more than four days to build.
Former Melburnian Jake Brown felt the ramp’s full force after a vertical skating trick went horribly wrong.
He fell 15 metres. The impact was so great his shoes burst off his feet.
But Brown last month redeemed himself with a gold medal ride at X Games 15.
He was excited to show off his arsenal of tricks to a home crowd.
“The Megarampage is going to be an amazing event,” he said.
Brazilian skater Bob Burnquist is likely to be Brown’s biggest challenger. His San Diego backyard features the world’s largest MegaRamp.
“With the awesome line-up of bands it promises to be a high energy, awe-inspiring event,” Burnquist said.
BMX legend Dave Mirra will also show Melbourne fans why he is one of the most decorated action sports athletes in the world.
Other competing skaters and BMX-ers will include Danny Way, Buster Halterman, Rob Lorifice, Adam Taylor, Kevin Robinson, Allan Cooke, Steve McCann and Chad Kagy.
Music acts will include The Offspring, Good Charlotte, Wu Tang Clan, Lil Jon, Cog, Mammal and Kelley James.
