MONBULK’S Under 17 (1) team came close but not close enough in their game against The Basin on Saturday. Needing 208 to win, the Basin boys got the runs thanks to a century from Scott Pantlin but not before Monbulk had captured 8 of their wickets.
It was a happier ending for the Under 15s. Defending 3/131, they dismissed Rowville for 109. Brad Hilton took 3 for 18. A great effort from an improving team.
The Monbulk Maroon boys easily defeated rivals Belgrave. Steve Torsello made 21 not out and Brodie Emmett 23 not out as the Maroons got to 160 for 6.
The Monbulk Under 13 Gold team were always up against it chasing Knox Garden’s 251. Intent on occupying the crease, the Gold boys ended at 7 for 127 (Blake Glen 30 not out).
Meanwhile, in a low scoring game at Mountain Gate, the Under 17(2) team were dismissed twice for 51 and 42, handing the home side (3/61 dec and 3/38) 10 valuable points.
