RESIDENTS will stop to remember those who lost their lives in World War I next week.
At the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month, a bugle call and a minute’s silence will mark Remembrance Day across the country.
It will commemorate the moment in 1918 when guns on the Western Front fell silent after more than four years of continuous warfare.
The day has since marked a time to remember those lost in WWI and conflicts since then.
In the hills there will a number of services to commemorate this moment in history.
Cockatoo: A small service will be held at the town’s cenotaph in Belgrave-Gembrook Road at 11am.
Cockatoo Primary School students will also lay wreaths in memory of those who sacrificed so much.
Emerald: Residents are invited to join a small service at 11am at the town’s RSL in Memorial Drive.
Gembrook: The town’s primary school students will hold commemorate the day with a simple ceremony at 11am at the town’s cenotaph in Redwood Road.
Monbulk: A short service will be held at 11am at the RSL sub-branch in Main Street to remember those who fought for their country’s freedom.
Mount Evelyn: A small service will be held at the memorial garden in Birmingham Road at 11am on Wednesday 11 November.
Following the service locals will be welcome to enjoy a spot of morning tea at the RSL clubrooms.
Upwey-Belgrave: The RSL will hold a service at the Belgrave cenotaph in Wattle Avenue from 11am. Residents are also welcome to enjoy some refreshments at the RSL sub-branch rooms in Mast Gully Road following the service.
