DANDENONG Market has been operating since 1886 and is famous for its great bargains and range.
With over 200 stalls, shoppers will find good deals everywhere.
It’s also the place to be this Christmas for a glimpse of the man in red and the freshest produce.
In the lead-up to Christmas, Santa will appear at the market from 10am to 3pm each day. He’s happy to pose for photos, so shoppers should make sure they keep their camera handy.
The market will host a great entertainment line-up, including children’s workshops from 18 to 23 December, and will open from 7am to 4pm on Wednesday 23 December for last-minute Christmas shopping needs.
The market has 16 fresh fruit and vegetable stallholders, a seafood shop, poultry shop and two delis.
Shoppers will also find a cheese stall, nuts and dried fruit, confectionery and dry grocery goods.
There’s a great range fabrics, prints, cards, toys, shoes, clothes, socks, jewellery, watches, sunglasses, plants, flowers and much, much more.
Visitors looking for a quick snack while browsing the market’s isles can try Dutch pancakes, burek, kebabs, kransky sausages or Dandee donuts. There’s plenty to please even the fussiest eaters.
The market also offers services including a hairdresser, key cutting and engraving, an ATM and Tattslotto agency.
October marked a significant milestone in the $26 million Dandenong Market redevelopment with the official opening of the new general merchandise hall.
New and refurbished buildings including a new meat, fish and delicatessen hall, a new produce hall, increased space for fruit and vegetable stalls and improved access for pedestrians and motorists.
The works will breathe new life into the facility and bring it into the 21st century, ensuring the market is a Dandenong icon for a long time to come.
The aim is to make Dandenong Market a landmark regional shopping destination for the south-east.
The produce hall is currently under construction and will feature a greater selection of nuts, cheeses, coffee, honey, oils and spices when it’s unveiled in February.
The new meat, fish and deli hall will be completed in April and will feature a greater range of delicatessens, seafood shops, poultry shops and butchers.
The fruit and vegetable area will be refurbished after Australia Day and will also be finished in April.
There are more than 600 parking spaces, including undercover parking and bargains everywhere. The Dandenong Market offers something for everyone.
Dandenong Market is open 7am to 4pm every Tuesday, 7am to 5pm Fridays and 7am to 3pm Saturday, except public holidays.
