BEST friends Taryn Chapman and Christelise De Graaf never dreamt of being the highest achievers at Mountain District Christian School.
Christelise had a series of strange dreams about her results before they came out.
Then the pair were shocked last month when the results were released and they discovered that only .15 points separated them.
Taryn scored 93 and Christelise 93.15 as part of their year 12 results.
Both were ecstatic with their scores. Taryn was at a friend’s house when the results came in.
“I had slept in so they all came and got me so we could find out our results,” she said.
The girls looked up their scores on the internet.
At first Taryn couldn’t believe it.
“I was so shocked,” she said.
“I just stared at the screen dumbfounded… it had my name at the top of the screen and that’s the only reason I believed it was mine,” she said.
Taryn dreams of becoming a linguist could soon come true if she gets into her language course at Monash University. She has had a passion for language since she was nine years old.
“Indonesian was my favourite subject and I now want to study Spanish,” Taryn said.
When she finishes university, Taryn hopes to work in international relations as a translator.
“I love reading articles and translating them… I want to do lots of travelling – I’d love to go to Egypt, Turkey and Indonesia,” she said.
Taryn couldn’t believe it when Christelise scored just .15 more than her.
“It was really exciting for us,” she said.
“We got everything we expected and more.”
Taryn had given up hope of getting into the Monash course because she needed 88 points or higher. It would enable her to study both Spanish and Indonesia which was the only duel language course in Victoria. “I thought I was not to get than and hoped for a 78 for one of the other courses,” she said.
Christelise was equally thrilled with her results.
She can now continue pursuing her passion for classical music.
The singer was hoping for a score in the 90s but never dreamt she would end up taking out the Dux of her school. She even started lowering her expectations in preparation for getting a lower score than she hoped for.
“So I was hoping for 85 or above,” she said.
Just prior to the scores being released, Christelise started have weird dreams about her results.
In one dream she got 62 and in another she couldn’t read the paper. Then the morning before the scores were released Christelise dreamt she got in the 90s.
She is now hoping to undertake a double music arts degree at Monash University.
Christelise had already passed the audition and was just waiting on her final results.
