Scouting for cash

The State Labor Government will provide $190,000 to create a high ropes course at Gembrook’s Gilwell Park if re-elected.
The funding will come as part of a $4 million pledge to Victoria’s Scouting and Girl Guide movements.
“The Victorian government’s Respect Agenda supports a range of activities to encourage young Victorians to engage with their communities and develop life skills,” Premier John Brumby said.
“Girl Guides Victoria and the Victorian branch of the Scouts are two of our state’s biggest and most successful youth organisations.”
“The common aim here is to encourage the physical and intellectual development of young people and provide them with life skills for the future.”
If re-elected, Mr Brumby promised $3.45 million for a Scout and Guide hall modernisation program, $200,000 to Girl Guides Victoria to encourage participation in multi-cultural communities, and $160,000 for volunteer training.
