BOTH the Ferntree Gully and Upper Ferntree Gully fire brigades are on the hunt for new, enthusiastic members.
Each brigade has a high level of activity, attending more than 400 fires and incidents to date in 2010.
The brigades are particularly interested in people who are available on weekdays during business hours, have been a previous member or have a special skill to offer.
Upper Ferntree Gully lieutenant Dean Lankester, 25, joined the brigade as a junior in 1998.
He encouraged anyone who is considering donating time to their community to seriously consider joining the CFA.
“Growing up in the (Upper Ferntree Gully) brigade, I’ve picked up not only fire fighting skills, but leadership, command and control skills,” Mr Lankester said.
“I also enjoy being part of a team and training and mentoring new recruits.” Mr Lankester’s wife, Naomi, is also a member at Upper Ferntree Gully and is the brigade’s secretary.
Upper Fentree Gully Fire Brigade will host an information session on 3 November at 7pm at the station house on Burwood Highway in Upper Ferntree Gully.
Anyone interested in attending should call brigade administrative support officer Lynne Smith in 0419 378 572.
