Sprint star says adios

SUPERSTAR greyhound El Grand Senor has been retired.
El Grand Senor – crowned Australian greyhound of the year at a glittering ceremony in Adelaide last Friday – will stand at stud on the Sale property of his owner-trainer, Carolyn Jones. His service fee will be $2000.
The three-time Group 1 winner captured everyone’s heart with his tenacious chasing and never-say-die attitude.
The amazing chaser recorded 27 wins and four minor placings from 34 starts and $444,050 in prize-money.
El Grand Senor won the 2011 Warragul Cup, where he set a speed pattern, which has been followed in recent weeks at Warragul, where two track records have been smashed.
The air at Warragul has been full of excitement after promising stayer Shimaguni, trained by Jim Redenbach, broke the 680m track record – followed by the 400m record being smashed by the Gary Ennis trained Flash Drive.
A big crowd rolled up on Tuesday night to see the promising youngster Aston Galilee utilise his favourable inside box draw.
Prepared by one of Australia’s leading trainers, Jason Thompson, for one of Australia’s most prolific owners, Raymond Borda, Aston Galilee impressed with an effortless 26.15 victory in the opening race, scoring by 10.25 lengths.
Thompson has a high opinion of the Bombastic Shiraz-Elite Oriental sprinter.
Tuesday’s win took his record to nine victories from 12 starts. It was his first victory on the Warragul track.
Aston Galilee returns to Warragul next Tuesday night. He will contest the Grade 5 final, which will assemble a cracking field, including the likes of Bozzco, Northern Gunna and the promising Stomp Stomp.
