THE Casey Comets have enhanced their reputation as the Division Two road-warriors by beating one of the toughest sides in the league at their own fortress.
After a stinging round one loss to Morwell at home, the Comets bounced back on Saturday, beating Dandenong 2-1 at Frank Holohan Reserve.
A header from captain Tony Saunders levelled the score at 1-1 in the 35th minute before a brilliant run by Farat Murluria set up Paul Presti for the game winner.
But Comets coach, Dough Chisholm is still scratching his head over why his team continues to win on the road yet cough up games at home.
The Comets, who lost only two of their 11 away games last season, were back to their bemusing best during Saturday’s away match.
“I just don’t know what it is,” Chisholm said.
“The first week we didn’t play well at all and we got what we deserved
“We realised our first game just wasn’t good enough and responded very well this week.
“It is a really tough mission to go up there (Dandenong) and get points… But we played much better.
“I can’t pin point it, we just seem to do better away from home.”
While Chisholm and his men prepare to conquer their home-ground hoodoo when they host Heatherton on Saturday, Tom O’Hallaron and his Division Two Berwick side will be looking to get back on the winners list when they play Old Scotch.
Berwick will consider itself unlucky that it walked away from Centenary Park with no points after it had many chances to take the lead in the first half during its 3-2 loss to Peninsula Strikers.
Compounding Berwick’s shooting woes was a dubious offside call in the final minutes that disallowed Stuart Mackie’s equaliser.
The news was better for Doveton, who won its first game of the season with a 1-0 win over a fatiguing North Caulfield at Waratah Reserve.
In the provisional leagues, Casey Kings and Keysborough both had 1-1 draws with their respective opponents while Endeavour lost 2-0 to Ashburton at Ashburton Park.
Casey does it again, somehow
