The Knox Park athletics track is getting a transformation.
Officially opened in 1979, Knox Park is much-loved by the community. Home to many local clubs, including Knox Little Athletics, Knox Senior Athletics, Knox Triathlon Club, and over 90 local school athletic carnivals per year, who will soon become the beneficiaries of the $4.8 million redevelopment.
Athletics Knox board member Phillip Bateman says being involved in Little Athletics helped develop the lives of his children.
“Some of them progressed into sports related careers in education and sports medicine,” he says.
“All users of the facility will benefit from the redevelopment as the track running surface, which was originally laid 40 years ago, is well past its use-by date.”
The project, in partnership with the Victorian Government, commenced last month and is scheduled for completion in the first half of 2025.
Community can expect track resurfacing, infield upgrades, footpath upgrades, LED lighting installations, additional shade, a new scoreboard and more. When complete, the new facility will achieve a Class 2 World Athletics Certification, fostering further participation and growth for families in Knox and surrounding areas.
The track will be closed while works take place, with Croydon Athletics Track, AC Robertson Athletics Track (Ringwood) and Central Reserve (Glen Waverley) available for use in the interim.
The footpath along the back of the track, as well as the oval, will not be affected.
