Rodeo set to lasso interest

By Tania Martin
LOCAL cowboys and girls should get ready to strap on their riding boots with the Cockatoo Rodeo coming soon.
The rodeo and country music night will be held on Saturday, 18 March on the corner of Avon and Woori Yallock Roads, Cockatoo.
Four sporting groups have joined together to help organise this year’s rodeo under the guidance of coordinator Graham McKay.
The rodeo will be packed full of exciting events, including the saddle bronc, bull ride, rope and tie, steer wrestling, team roping, barrel race, breakaway roping, junior barrel racing and the local steer ride. Gates open at 3pm, with the rodeo events starting at 5.30pm. A live band will keep the crowd entertained and the bar will be open until 11pm.
The Cockatoo Rodeo Incorporation has also organised a bus service for the duration of the event to take people to and from the event.
One of the organisers, Sue Williams, said there will be bus pick-up and drop-off points in Emerald, Avonsleigh and Cockatoo.
The pick-up points include Mountain Road in Cockatoo, McBride Street in Cockatoo, Avonsleigh Store, and at the Emerald CFA. Ms Williams said this bus service plus added security should make a fantastic and safe night out for all to enjoy. All funds raised will be donated towards the Macclesfield Pony Club and Emerald senior and junior football clubs. Local residents are also warned that no camping will be permitted on the grounds.
The rodeo costs $40 for families, $20 adults and $10 for children over the age of eight. For more information, call Rob Edwards on 5698 6672.
