Scoop of support

CASEY residents didn’t let the rain deter them from buying an ice-cream on Saturday to show their support for a worthy cause.
More than $4000 was raised for Lifeline during Bubblegum Ice Cream day, an event created by Berwick resident Kim Membrey with the help of local Cold Rock ice cream stores.
Ms Membrey’s brother Rowan (Row) committed suicide in March and it would have been his 18th birthday on 26 November.
To honour her brother, Ms Membrey, 20, enlisted the help of local Cold Rock ice cream stores to raise money for Lifeline, an organisation that works towards suicide prevention and mental wellbeing.
The store agreed to hold Bubblegum Ice Cream Day in honour of Row’s favourite flavour, with $2 from every store purchase, ice cream and drinks, being donated to Lifeline.
Ms Membrey said the day was a success.
β€œI am overwhelmed with the support I received,” she said.
β€œIt was really good and I want to say a massive thank you to Cold Rock for holding the event.”
Cold Rock stores in Berwick, Cranbourne, Mornington, Rowville and Wantirna held Bubblegum Day.
Pauline Bradnam-Lee, who owns two stores and co-owns the other three with her partner Tony Carfi, said she was more than happy to help out with the cause.
